A Revolutionary Collaboration: Les Paul Meets Gibson
In the early 1950s, guitarist and inventor Les Paul partnered with Gibson to bring his vision of a solid-body electric guitar to life. Though Les had already experimented with homemade designs (including one called The Log), it wasn’t until Gibson officially released the first Les Paul guitar in 1952 that things took off.
The original model featured a gold top finish, a solid mahogany body with a maple cap, and P-90 pickups, offering players more sustain and less feedback than the hollow-body guitars of the era.
The 1959 Standard: A Vintage Guitar Icon
While the early models were successful, it was the 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard that truly became legendary. With its beautifully figured sunburst top, powerful humbucker pickups, and exceptional craftsmanship, the ’59 model is now one of the most sought-after vintage guitars in the world.
